The Bad MySpace Blind Date

Back in the day when MySpace first started, I thought it was a cool way to meet new people. One guy messaged me a lot and then we started talking on the phone. After a few calls we agreed to meet up for drinks. I picked a place where I knew the bartender to be safe. He showed up late and apologized, saying that his stomach had been bothering him all day long. TMI. When I asked him what he liked to watch on TV he gave me a summary of his favorite show of all time, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. These paired with the fact that he lived with his parents because he had a massive amount of credit card debt, didn’t have a car, and didn’t offer to buy me a drink were all dealbreakers.

The Good Son

The Blind Date: He took me to a crappy chain restaurant and before I could order, ordered us a banana split “to share”. During our ‘meal’, he told me he had something special to show me after dinner. He drove me to a really cute neighborhood I didn’t recognize. I assumed he was taking me to a park, or to look at houses (I’m an Architecture major). Instead, he took me to HIS PARENT’S HOUSE. When she answered the door, his mom exclaimed “It’s so nice to meet you! We’ve heard so much about you!” and threw her arms around me. Did I mention this was a blind date? Dealbreaker.

The Unromantic Pot Head

I had spoken to this guy on the phone a couple of times, and we had plans to meet up. My suggestion for our first date was a stroll downtown at this cultural event and then checking out a new winery that had just opened. His idea? Smoking weed at his friend’s house. Romantic, no. Dealbreaker, yes.
